What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy describes any disease involving the peripheral nerves, usually weakness and numbness. It can either affect a single nerve or many nerves, and the symptoms depend on the distribution of the nerves involved.

Research

It is known that Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common chronic complications of diabetes. Therefore, Yigit et al (2013) explored the possible association between the MTHFR C677T mutation and DPN. Results showed differences between the frequency of the C677T were found between the study and control groups, with an association observed between the C677T mutation and a history of neuropathy in these patients.
