What is the difference between genetics, genomics, and epigenetics?

Genetics refers to the study of individual genes and their role in inheritance—how traits and conditions are passed down from one generation to the next. For example, genetics examines how mutations in the BRCA1 gene may increase the risk of breast cancer.

Genomics, on the other hand, is a broader field that examines all of a person’s genes (the genome) and how they interact with each other and the environment.
